Marcia Patmos Opens Brooklyn Store for M.Patmos With Focus on Community

Six years after officially launching her M.Patmos brand, Marcia Patmos has opened her first store in Brooklyn.
Located at 380 Atlantic Avenue, the lofty space offers her designs and a range of other products, including art books, records, organic beauty products and home decor. Jewelry from local designers, sneakers from Alumnae upcycled styles from the Los Angeles-based VisionQuest, cashmere blankets and throws from Saved and zero-waste pillows from Oliver Yaphe are some of the pick-up items for sales. Photographer Sarah Bird’s “Trees” exhibition is on view, too.
Patmos said of the opening: “I thought it was a good time, because people are interested in independent designers. There are two things happening. There’s the Amazon world and there’s also people, who like to go into a store to touch things, speak to a person and find special things that you don’t find on Amazon, etc.”
To design the space, Patmos used as many recycled goods as she could, “stalking” The Big Reuse in Gowanus for salvaged goods like mirrors, shelves and other finds. With large bay windows, old wood floors and tin ceilings, the designer wanted the interior to have an industrial feel. She made the clothing racks from plumbing pipes. To keep things

Somerset House Honors Charlie Brown and Enduring Power of ‘Peanuts’

COMIC RELIEF: Somerset House is bringing print to life with its latest exhibition, “Good Grief, Charlie Brown” which opens its doors on Oct. 25 and runs until March 3.
Spanning two floors, the show highlights George M. Schulz’s cartoons and impact on contemporary culture. On display are more than 80 original illustrations, first-edition comic books and vintage sweaters featuring iconic “Peanuts” screen prints on loan from Kim Jones, Dior’s artistic director.
Elsewhere, there are large-scale comic strips plastered on the walls of the exhibition, while personal belongings of the artist, such as Schulz’s favorite drawing tools, are showcased.
Contemporary artists also speak to the enduring power of the comic in a video screened upstairs in the cinema room. Issues such as feminism, mental health and friendship are highlighted.
Browns Fashion has gone nuts for Charlie Brown, with the retailer launching an exclusive capsule collection of items relating to the Fifties comic, including a skateboard — the comic book character’s preferred mode of transportation — that retails at 85 pounds.
Other items include tote bags, a stainless-steel flask, and a selection of notebooks with original illustrations as well as contemporary interpretations of the cartoon characters.

Custom collaborations between Fabletics and Varsity are also being explored, a spokeswoman for Fabletics said.
The deal is a continuation of the digitally born brand’s push into physical retail. Fabletics now counts 25 stores. It’s the only division within the TechStyle Fashion Group portfolio — which also includes JustFab, ShoeDazzle and JustKids — that has successfully bridged its online subscription business with growth in the physical retail world, driving some $300 million in annual sales for its parent.
