Lela Rose Honored in Dallas

Lela Rose made her debut at the Dallas Symphony Orchestra League Presentation Ball many moons ago, so it was no surprise when the league chose her to receive the inaugural Fashion Notes Designer Award.
“I remember teetering on the stage trying to do my bow with my nose to the floor, so I thought it would be nice to come back,” Rose said Monday at the fifth annual Fashion Notes luncheon at the Fairmont Dallas hotel.
The prize recognizes outstanding achievement in design, said DSO League president Lisa Loy Laughlin.
“Thank you for your strong and graceful example for all the women of the world, including our Dallas Symphony Orchestra debs,” Laughlin said.
Rose wore a pink coat trimmed with Mongolian lamb over a gray jumpsuit from her fall collection. But while some attendees also wore her designs, none appeared in the luncheon’s short runway show organized by Stanley Korshak. The house recently stopped selling to Korshak because they had so many points of distribution in Dallas, Rose explained. They include Rose’s flagship store at Highland Park Village as well as Neiman Marcus, Tootsies and Warren Barron bridal shop.
Rose capitalized on the visit with a lively party at her store Friday, which featured a

Fashion Gets Probed at Sustainability Conference

LONDON — What’s Going On?
That’s what The Centre for Sustainable Fashion is looking to answer with a two-day conference marking its 10-year anniversary at London College of Fashion.
The conference, which began Wednesday, comes on the heels of an inquiry into fast fashion’s impact on the environment that was launched in June by the House of Commons’ environmental audit committee and chaired by Mary Creagh, a member of Parliament, who also opened the two-day event.
“The U.K. buys more clothes than any other European country and every year we dispose of 1.1 million tons of clothes and 80 percent of that goes into the landfill,” she said, pointing out her reason for opening the inquiry.
While waste is the industry’s most visible problem, Creagh also addressed the impact of microbeads, plastic packaging, microfibers in waste water and pollution resulting from production. “Fashion has a history of chasing the cheap needle around the globe and turning a blind eye to environmental degradation,” she said.
The committee is working on finding solutions to these problems, she said, citing the microbeads ban that passed in the U.K. earlier this year and calls for industry players to replace their linear model with a circular one.

Chiara Ferragni Collection Opens Parisian Flagship

FERRAGNI IN PARIS – Chiara Ferragni Collection lands in the City of Light.
The namesake label of the influencer and entrepreneur behind The Blonde Salad digital platform has opened its first French flagship in the Parisian Marais district, on the left bank of the Seine.
Located on the corner between Rue de Debelleyme and Rue de Turenne, the 560-square-foot space stands out for its walls in the brand’s signature light blue color and the banners bearing the stylized blue eye logo.
Inside, the interior concept reflects one of the label’s Milan outposts, decked out in Ferragni’s signature glitter motif and playing up the concept of “airport life.” Wooden panels covering the store perimeter contrast with the bright shades of the marble flooring, the central blue carpet, the golden displays and mirrors and the glittered fitting room.

Solange, Stephen Webster, Shaun Leane Show Off Their Sparkle in London

SPOT CHECK: British jewelers Solange Azagury-Partridge, Shaun Leane, Stephen Webster and Theo Fennell showed off the glittering fruits of a year’s labor working with students in a Prince’s Trust mentorship program, during an event in London on Tuesday night.
Each designer worked with an aspiring jeweler to create original pieces, and also whipped up 18-karat gold and sterling silver versions of their signature styles to raise money for The Prince’s Trust. Azagury-Partridge created a leopard-print Hot Lips ring while Leane put the spots on his signature pointy-edged bangles.
The spots are a reference to The Leopards, a group of jewelers and industry supporters who are aiming to raise the profile of the British fine jewelry industry and support young talent together with The Prince’s Trust, the youth charity founded by Prince Charles more than 40 years ago. Guests, including Vivienne Westwood, Andreas Kronthaler, Emilia Wickstead and Sabine Getty, gathered at Fortnum & Mason in London on Tuesday night to toast the designers and the designs.
Azagury-Partridge said she spent much time with her mentee, Louis Browning, “refining, changing and modifying” and was impressed with his creativity and craftsmanship. “I would have never been able to dp that at his age,” said the jeweler who has just released her new
