PARIS — Armed with a 100-million-euro investment fund and a vast network, Ghanaian entrepreneur Roberta Annan is eager to leapfrog Africa into the burgeoning global luxury market.
“I’ve appointed myself as an ambassador — nobody has appointed me — to really position people that are doing things so we can rebrand and reposition how people view Africa,” Annan told a gathering here Tuesday organized by investment bank Ohana & Co.
“She is probably one of the best ambassadors for Africa,” Karine Ohana, managing partner of the firm, said by way of introduction, going on to note that the population of the African continent is expected to rise to 2.5 billion by 2050, making it a key trade partner for Europe.
Guests including designer Olivier Theyskens, former French minister Philippe Douste-Blazy and industrialist Laurent Dassault heard how Annan was supporting entrepreneurs like Menaye Donkor, a former Ghanaian beauty queen who presented her cosmetics brand, She-y, at the event. The line, made in Italy, uses ethically sourced shea butter from Ghana and algae from Senegal, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Menaye Charity Organization, which provides education for underprivileged children.

FRIENDS FIRST: Bella Freud and Yasmine Eslami, each accomplished in the design arena, have pooled their talents.
The pair got to know each other in the early Nineties, when they were learning the ropes in Vivienne Westwood’s design studio. Each has established their own respective followings for well-thought-out designs and clever undertones.
François Rotger photographed models Annabelle Belmondo and Alexandra Ricci wearing the collection. For their inaugural collaboration, the pair used the word “Love” as a starting point for the lineup, which includes a crewneck sweater emblazoned with the word, a “Love”-imprinted tote and a pink bra with green piping and coordinating underwear. Retail prices range from $35 to $450. The items will be sold at the Bella Freud London store, the Yasmine Eslami boutique and on their own e-commerce sites. Freud’s store sells the sweater and a tote bag, and Eslami has the full assortment. The duo expects to forge forward with more design collaborations down the road.
In 2010, Eslami started her own company, which is privately owned and produced in-house. In 2016, she launched a line of unisex shirts and men’s underwear as well as an e-commerce site. She continues to collaborate with Andreas Kronthaler of Vivienne Westwood, having designed

GOING ONCE, GOING TWICE: Before Annabel’s moved two doors down, No. 44 was a London landmark where movers and shakers brushed shoulders under the vaulted ceilings. To celebrate 55 legendary years of the members-only club, Annabel’s is giving the public a chance to score some of its old wares at an auction on Nov. 20, to be held at Christie’s in London.
Annabel’s has partnered with Christie’s Auction House and there will be a total of 250 lots available for sale. These include paintings spanning from Modern British, Old Master, 19th century and Victorian from painters such as Augustus John, Glyn Philpot and Sir Alfred Munnings. These are estimated to sell from 15,000 pounds to 120,000 pounds.
Drawings, political cartoons and vintage posters, which decorated the walls and lined the staircases of the club, are also up for grabs. There are early Swiss ski posters; a rare poster of Sainte-Croix/Les Rasses, a ski resort, by François Jacques; lithographic posters by A.M. Cassandre, and cartoons from the political cartoonist Nicholas Garland.

ROYAL JEWELS: The public can finally cast an eye on Marie-Antoinette’s jewels, after 200 years of being stored away.
The Bourbon-Parma family who are descendants of Louis XIV, the Holy Roman Emperors and Pope Paul III, will be putting up 10 of the Queen of France’s jewels up for sale, at a Sotheby’s auction taking place in Geneva on Nov. 14.
These include Marie Antoinette’s 18th-century diamond and natural pearl pendant and a natural pearl and diamond necklace, which were safely transported to Vienna despite the Queen and King Louis XVI’s unsuccessful escape in 1791 during the French Revolution.
“The Marie Antoinette pendant is simple irreplaceable,” said Eddie LeVian, chief executive officer of jeweler Le Vian. “This is far more than the gems themselves, Marie Antoinette’s jewelry is inextricably linked to the cause of the French Revolution and I estimate this stunning pendant will sell for $2.5 million to $5 million,” he added.
Daniela Mascetti, deputy chairman at Sotheby’s Jewellery Europe and senior international specialist, said this is one of the most important royal jewelry collections to appear on the market. “Each and every jewel is absolutely imbued with history. Never before seen in public, this extraordinary group of jewels offers a captivating insight into
