Christian Louboutin to Be Honored by the Couture Council of The Museum at FIT

IF THE SHOE FITS: Christian Louboutin will be the guest of honor at the Couture Council of The Museum at FIT’s annual luncheon.
The footwear designer is internationally known for his red-soled footwear that is routinely worn by a slew of celebrities including Rachel Brosnahan, Bella Hadid, Adriana Lima, Martha Hunt and Hailey Clauson in recent weeks alone. Louboutin will receive this year’s Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion at the Sept. 4 event at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center. As in years past, the luncheon is the unofficial curtain-raiser to New York Fashion week and it will benefit The Museum at FIT.
Louboutin has been singled out for “his lifelong dedication to the art and craft of fashion” by an advisory committee, chaired by MFIT’s director Valerie Steele. The committee includes: Harper’s Bazaar editor in chief Glenda Bailey, Vogue’s international editor at large Hamish Bowles, Triple Five Group’s chief creative officer Ken Downing, Bergdorf Goodman’s senior vice president of fashion and store presentation director Linda Fargo, Fashion*Art*Forecasting’s executive consultant Nicole Fischelis; Kyoto Costume Institute’s director emerita Akiko Fukai; Couture Council board member Kamie Lightburn; The Museum at FIT’s deputy director Patricia Mears; Vogue’s Suzy Menkes; fashion historian

Alexander Wang Readies for Rockefeller Center Runway Show

IN A NEW YORK MINUTE: Alexander Wang is taking a democratized approach to his Friday night show at Rockefeller Center. About 360 media types and invited guests will be “rinkside,” as in watching every model’s turn where the storied skating rink resides in wintery months. In addition, nearly 1,000 fans and passersby will line the upper level. The al fresco set-up is a first for Rockefeller Center, as the designer has made a habit of incorporating public elements and consumer touchpoints in his industry-related efforts.
“Part of the coup of winning this location” is that the company has a really organized location for industry types “to sit and see the show in a very controlled manner on the lower level,” an Alexander Wang spokesman said. “Then, we invite essentially New York City to come to experience the show on the upper plaza. As an American brand that is rooted in New York, Rockefeller Center represented the energy and the epicenter of New York City,” according to a spokesman for the designer.

Isabel Marant to Host a Party During Milan Fashion Week

MILAN — The Milan Fashion Week schedule just got a French touch.
Isabel Marant will be hosting a party during the men’s shows here on June 15 at the central storied Palazzo Isimbardi venue.
Sent out on Wednesday, digital invitations feature a pixelated rendition of a desert and a bold caption reading “Isabel is in town!,” in addition to informing guests that DJ sets by Futuro Tropicale and Velardi will be hosted during the four-hour event.
According to sources, the French designer will also be in attendance.
Last year, the label inaugurated its Milanese store in Via Santo Spirito, in the city’s tony area.
Running June 14-17, the fashion week will kick off with the Milan Fashion Graduate event and will close with the Giorgio Armani show to be hosted in the designer’s storied headquarters at 11 Via Borgonuovo.
As reported, several brands will migrate from Milan in June, including Prada, which for the first time will show its men’s collection in Shanghai; Salvatore Ferragamo and MSGM, which will both stage men’s fashion shows in Florence during Pitti Uomo.

Denim in Depth Fall 2019: Original Fit

Jeans were born in the American West in the 1870s. That era also saw the immense popularity of tintype photography, the kinds of photos mimicked here in actual tintype. Now both jeans and tintype are seeing a resurgence, with jeans hot again after years of being left behind by leggings and other activewear. It goes to show: True classics never fade.

HOME RUN: Acne Studios is stepping onto the field.
The Swedish ready-to-wear brand is teaming with Starter Black Label, the premium line by American athletic brand Starter.

Logo patchworks blending Starter’s retro font with the Acne Studios label cover some of the styles, including Acne Studios denim fits such as the 1996 and 1997 jeans.
