Animal Planet Capsule to Benefit Project CAT

Animal Planet Capsule to Benefit Project CAT

Discovery Inc. and Art & Eden, a sustainable cotton kids’ clothing brand, have teamed to help protect endangered species with a new Animal Planet capsule collection.
The collection will feature vibrant images of animals that are in need of protection and conservation, such as tigers, elephants, sharks and whales. It will be available starting Feb. 4 at nordstrom.com, Artandeden.com and Kidbox. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Project CAT, Discovery’s ongoing initiative with the World Wildlife Fund dedicated to ensuring a healthy habitat for future generations of tigers. The partnership supports a global effort to double the number of tigers in the wild by 2022.
Created sustainably and packaged in recycled materials, the Animal Planet x Art & Eden collection highlights 40 exclusive designs including shirts, dresses, skirts and shorts, all made of organic cotton and low-impact dyes. The retail prices range from $31 to $42.  Depending on the item, the sizes range from six months to 24 months, and 2 to 10. The marketing campaign supporting the apparel collection will spotlight the combined mission of protecting endangered animals while also emboldening children to create the planet they are proud of.

Rebecca Moses’ ‘White Shirts’ Exhibit Draws Colorful Crowd

A small crowd on Tuesday evening was waiting for an elevator in the lobby of 44 W. 18th Street when the doors opened and out walked a woman, who took one look at the eclectically dressed group and said,”You’re going to love it.” “It” was the opening of Rebecca Moses’ “White Shirts” exhibition at Ralph Pucci Gallery Nine.
The artist was stationed in front of the long wall covered with 36 of her paintings of women wearing white shirts. The women in the paintings represented a range of ages, sizes, shapes and ethnicities.
“Rebecca is one of the most passionate, creative and artistic people I know,” said Vera Wang. “I’ve known her for 40 years, since her years in fashion. She lived fashion, but she also managed to transfer that life into a new life as an artist.”

Nathalie Chablat, a muse of Wang’s, was standing beside her likeness. “Rebecca painted it at home in the night time,” she said. “She’s very, very fast and she can paint with her eyes closed.”

“Women are so balanced and sophisticated and know how to put themselves out there,” Moses said, referring to Chablat.” Her beauty is so rare.”

Jeremy Scott, Mario Sorrenti, Yelena Yemchuk Among Exhibitions at Dallas Contemporary

The Dallas Contemporary is the latest museum to count on fashion exhibitions to try to bolster attendance.
Three years in the making, the Dallas Contemporary’s Jeremy Scott retrospective is attracting an international and diverse crowd. It is part of a yearlong plan to play up fashion in its many forms. Visitors are welcome to take photographs and shoot video taking in the non-collecting institution, which is always free. Executive director Peter Doroshenko said, “Dallas Contemporary has continually made a commitment to including fashion as an art to be appreciated — this year’s program reflects that but continues to highlight painters and sculptors and performance artists as well.”
Located in a renovated warehouse in Dallas’ Design District, “Viva Avant Garde: A Jeremy Scott Retrospective” will be on view through March 17. It features early designs from the designer’s namesake label, which were unveiled in Paris in 1997. To highlight how prolific the Pratt graduate has been in his career, there is a wide range of sportswear, handbags, footwear and keepsakes from his notable runway shows. Museum patrons will also get a glimpse of Scott’s pop-culture iconography, like the golden arches of McDonald’s, cartoon characters, Cadillac tail fins and graffiti. From the designer’s viewpoint

Bicester Village Celebrates Chinese New Year With Designer Pop-up

Bicester Village is celebrating Chinese New Year — and its biggest consumer market — with a designer pop-up curated by fashion blogger Susanna Lau aka Susie Bubble. Titled “Celebrating China,” the pop-up includes pieces from 10 Chinese designers and will remain open from today until Feb. 17.
Bicester Village is a huge draw for Chinese consumers and according to the discount designer outlet, Bicester is the second-most visited site in the U.K. after Buckingham Palace for the Chinese. It also has a presence in China with two sister villages in Shanghai and Suzhou.
Of the 10 women’s wear designers, some already have a U.K. presence and others are using the opportunity to get more exposure, include Anaïs Jourden, I-Am-Chen, Marieyat, Matter Matters, Mukzin, Ryan Lo, Snow Xue Gao, Xu Zhi and Yang Li.
“I really wanted to do a pop-up that celebrated the real breadth of aesthetics that Chinese designers have to offer”, said Lau, who pointed to the variety of designs ranging from minimal to kitschy and graphic.
Lau, who hails from Hong Kong and has long supported Chinese fashion, is excited to provide an international platform for these young talents. While the timing is centered around Chinese New Year, she has steered

Rachel Roy Celebrates Book Penned With Daughter Ava Dash

Designer Rachel Roy can add another milestone to her list of accomplishments.
Roy has penned a book with daughter Ava Dash, called “96 Words for Love” with the two celebrating the title Monday night at the home of producer Brian Grazer and his wife Veronica.
“What started as a love story from myself to Ava, in hopes of teaching her more of her Indian heritage ended up a love story between Ava and myself to the world,” Roy said of the story.
Dash sought to retell an Indian myth through her own lens and perspective.
“Working with my teenage daughter was at times difficult, but in the end the best partnership I’ve ever had. Truly,” Roy said.
Distribution for the book is broad with the title on store shelves at retailers such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Roy’s site. The authors are donating the book’s proceeds to support children who have escaped trafficking with the help of the organization World of Children.
Roy, who serves as a U.N. ambassador for innovation and change, has had plenty going on, capping last year with a flurry of activity within her business.
Fall saw the launch of her Rachel Roy Collection, which made its debut with a Nordstrom exclusive.

Paris Aims to Be ‘Sustainable Capital of Fashion’ by 2024

PARIS — Paris is taking official steps toward more sustainability within the fashion industry.
Gathered at the Institut Français de la Mode on Monday, Frédéric Hocquard, deputy to Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo in charge of cultural diversity and nightlife; Antoinette Guhl, deputy in charge of social economy and solidarity, and Isabelle Lefort, a former fashion journalist, launched “Paris Good Fashion,” an initiative aiming to push the fashion industry towards adopting more sustainable practices.
Over the next five years — the projected end date is the 2024 edition of the Olympic Games, which will be held in Paris — Paris Good Fashion will bring together a cast of diverse fashion players joining forces to work on becoming more eco-conscious.
“Paris Good Fashion is an open community regrouping fashion professionals, brands, entrepreneurs, designers and experts who will be working together to establish a roadmap of the steps that can be taken to make Paris the sustainable capital of fashion,” said Lefort.
The Paris administration, the IFM, the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, creative platform Eyes on Talent, the Ellen McArthur Foundation and fashion incubator Les Ateliers de Paris are all part of the initiative, which has gathered support from LVMH Moët Hennessy
