Van Cleef & Arpels Brings Alhambra 50th Anniversary Exhibit to South Coast Plaza

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of its Alhambra jewelry collection, Van Cleef & Arpels will bring its interactive installation to South Coast Plaza from Oct. 4 to 14. First unveiled in London and Tokyo, the 1,000-square-foot structure will be located in the shopping center’s Jewel Court.
Inspired by the shape of the clover motif and based on the collection’s theme of luck, the installation comprises four connected rooms, each telling a different part of the Alhambra story. As they make their way through the installation, visitors are invited to experience four digitally augmented, dreamlike journeys that lead them further into the universe of Van Cleef & Arpels.

In continued celebration of the collection, Van Cleef & Arpels will be prelaunching a limited-edition, Vintage Alhambra 10-motif necklace and 5-motif bracelet in yellow gold and blue agate, available exclusively at South Coast Plaza. Meant to symbolize the California ocean, blue agate returns to the collection for the first time since 1989. Combined with yellow gold, this translucent form of chalcedony also has a soft radiance that evokes the blue glow of twilight.
After introducing the first Alhambra long necklace in 1968, VCA continues to enhance the permanent collection

Lady Gaga Attends Hedi Slimane’s Debut Show for Celine

PARTY FAITHFUL: The front row at Hedi Slimane’s show for Celine was filled with longtime friends of the designer, with Karl Lagerfeld, Catherine Deneuve, Lou Doillon, Joséphine de La Baume, Alexa Chung and Mark Ronson joining a legion of musicians at the event, held in a tent in front of the Hôtel des Invalides on Friday.
While the dark venue provided good cover for many celebrities in attendance, there was no missing Lady Gaga, who stood in the center of a throng of flashing cameras with Lagerfeld. The singer provided the first glimpse of Slimane’s new Celine designs when she was seen carrying the 16 handbag on Instagram on Aug. 30.
Gaga, wearing an Alaïa snakeskin trenchcoat, was on a break from promoting her new movie “A Star Is Born” following its U.K. premiere on Thursday. Ronson helped to write the track “Shallow,” in which she sings a duet with her costar Bradley Cooper.
Sitting opposite her was Alex Kapranos, lead singer of Franz Ferdinand, who has worn Slimane’s creations since the designer was at Dior Homme.
“Hedi’s always been a good friend to the musicians all around the world and we all love him as well — he’s a great guy. Personally speaking,

DVF Presented Honorary Citizen of the City of Brussels

Who says you can’t go home again?
Members of The Brussels City Council granted Diane von Furstenberg the title of Honorary Citizen of the City of Brussels in recognition of her efforts in arts and fashion and for her contribution to the image of Brussels worldwide. Von Furstenberg is also chairwoman of the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
Born in Brussels in 1946, von Furstenberg was presented the honor Thursday night by the Mayor of Brussels, Philippe Close at the Town Hall of Brussels.
“Getting this honor from the city of Brussels is extremely moving to me. Brussels is the city of my childhood and when I left it to start going to boarding schools, I was just dreaming of becoming  an independent woman,” von Furstenberg told WWD.
Von Furstenberg’s father was Moldovian-born Leon Halfin, who migrated to Belgium in 1929. Her mother was Greek-born Liliane Nahmias, a Holocaust survivor. A year and a half before von Furstenberg was born, her mother was a prisoner at Auschwitz concentration camp.
In her post on Instagram Friday morning, DVF wrote, “I left Belgium as a little girl and I am now a citizen of honor! Thank you Brussels for having given shelter to my parents and

L’Occitane Taps Roaming Truck to Acquire Customers, Scout for Real Estate

START YOUR ENGINES: L’Occitane is rolling. The beauty brand said its L’Occi truck has proven a good test into new markets and new customers.
The company in April introduced its retail truck in Washington, D.C., for the Cherry Blossom Festival, a timely event to play up L’Occitane’s own Cherry Blossom Collection. That was followed later that same month for the truck’s stop at Beautycon in New York. On Saturday the company parks the L’Occi Truck  at The Grove shopping center and will stay there through Oct. 31.
“The truck is becoming increasingly a really important aspect for us,” said Nicholas Baty, director of L’Occitane North America Outlets, who is managing the truck.
A roaming truck has served a number of brands well as businesses look to breathe new life into the retail experience. Kylie Cosmetics has popped up at a number of locations, including The Grove. The Giving Keys has also made use of a renovated Airstream to test retail in the past. There’s also Ripndip’s revamped ice cream truck, which has served as a mobile retail unit for the skate brand.
The vehicle for L’Occitane serves two functions for the business, Baty explained. First is to act as a stand-in for when a L’Occitane
