US AAFA hails move to renew Haiti HOPE/HELP programmes by Congress

AAFA recently praised the inclusion of the renewal of the Haitian Hemispheric Opportunity through Partnership Encouragement programme and the Haiti Economic Lift Programme in the ‘Continuing Resolution’, a stopgap measure to keep the US government funded for the next three months.

EU sees 13% drop in chemical production, 14% in consumption

In 2023, EU chemical production decreased by 13 per cent to 218 million tonnes, with consumption dropping 14 per cent to 227 million tonnes.
Hazardous chemicals production fell by 11 per cent, while environmental hazards decreased by 4 per cent.
Consumption also dropped, with chemicals hazardous to health falling 14 per cent.

UK retail jobs hit 2.81 mn in September 2024, down from last year

The UK retail sector had 2.81 million jobs in September 2024, down 40,000 from last year and 225,000 from five years ago, per ONS.

Amazon exits India’s Shoppers Stop by selling 4% stake for $32.44 mn

Amazon yesterday exited Indian retail chain Shoppers Stop after selling a 4-per cent stake in the latter for ₹275.89 crore ($32.44 million) through an open market transaction.
The e-commerce major, through its investment arm Amazon.com NV Investment Holdings, sold nearly 44 lakh shares in Shoppers Stop.
Through this bulk deal, Amazon gained nearly ₹97 crore—a profit of almost 54 per cent.Read More

Italy’s exports drop 1.9% MoM in Oct 2024; imports fall 0.3%

A larger cyclical monthly decline of 1.9 per cent is estimated for Italy’s exports in October than for imports, which fell by an estimated 0.3 per cent.
This decrease is marked for non-EU markets (minus 3.2 per cent) and limited for the EU area (minus 0.7 per cent).
In the August-October 2024 quarter, exports grew by 0.6 per cent quarter on quarter (QoQ) and imports by 1.1 per cent QoQ.Read More
