ANAHEIM — On Thursday night, Mike Trout returned to the Angels lineup after missing five days with a tight hamstring and went hitless.

That concludes the description of his re-adjustment.

“The first game he didn’t get a hit, and now he’s back to being Mike Trout,” Kole Calhoun said. “Every day he is going to amaze you with something.”

The latest amazement came when he homered for the fourth straight game in the Angels’ 5-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Monday night.

It was the first time in his career that he had accomplished that feat. It was the first time any Angels player had homered in four straight games since Mark Trumbo did it in 2012.

The franchise record is five, set by Bobby Bonds in 1977. Trout will have a familiar face in front of him as he takes a shot at that on Tuesday. The White Sox will start lefty Derek Holland, a longtime member of the Texas Rangers. Trout has faced Holland 51 times, and he’s hit .326 (14 for 43) with three homers.

Trout’s homer on Monday night was a 417-foot blast to straightaway left, a no-doubt-about-it shot. All four of his homers in the streak have traveled at least 400 feet.

Trout’s homer followed a three-run shot by Calhoun, which suddenly put Jesse Chavez in line for a victory.

To Chavez, the Trout streak is another item to add to the list of awe-inspiring accomplishments in his first year as Trout’s teammate.

“You have been spoiled,” Chavez said he tells people who have seen Trout every day for years. “I’m relishing every moment of it. Watching him go do his work every day. The way he goes about his business. Bar none, the best I’ve seen.”

Of course, Calhoun’s homer set the stage, erasing the three-run deficit and finally getting Calhoun the results he’d been waiting for while enduring a 2-for-21 slump.

“I feel like I’ve had some pretty solid contact in there and not getting a lot to fall in,” he said. “But that’s the ups and downs of the season. You just want to go out and help your team win games, and we’ve done that the last two games.”

Chavez got credit for this victory after allowing three runs in seven innings, one of his better outings of the season. Chavez, projected to be the Angels’ No. 5 starter, has performed about as well as could be expected, for that role.

After Monday’s game, Chavez has a 4.22 ERA, but it’s 3.75 as a starter. He gave up three runs in his one inning of relief when the Angels were forced to turn to him in the 13th inning of a game last month.

“I’m satisfied, but still not happy,” Chavez said. “There’s still a lot of work to do. It’s still early in the season. I don’t think any of us are happy where we’re at right now. We’re still coming in every day and trying to eliminate the bad that we did the night before.”

Chavez did not allow a baserunner through the first three innings, but then Leury Garcia singled up the middle to start the fourth. An out later, Jose Abreu drilled a two-run homer to right field.

An inning later, No. 9 hitter Tyler Saladino dropped an RBI triple just beyond the reach of a diving Calhoun in right, making it 3-0.

That was all Chavez allowed, though. He bounced back with two scoreless innings after the Angels took the lead on the Calhoun and Trout homers.

Chavez started the eighth, but he walked Tyler Saladino. Jose Alvarez came in and picked up two outs, and then Bud Norris got the final four outs to pick up his eighth save.

SAN FRANCISCO – The Dodgers’ visits to AT&T Park have taken on the feel of a TV procedural where the outcome is never really in doubt. Only the method needs to be determined.

This time, the Dodgers were done in by four consecutive hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. All four turned into runs for the San Francisco Giants, who piled on later before making that four-run burst stand up as the difference in an 8-4 defeat of the Dodgers on Monday night.

The Dodgers have now gone 6-19 in 25 games at AT&T Park since the start of the 2015 season. The only thing as reliable as the Giants beating the Dodgers here has been Clayton Kershaw being the reason when they don’t. Kershaw (who will start the series finale Wednesday afternoon) has been the starting pitcher in four of the Dodgers’ six wins over that time.

“I know we’re a better team than we’ve shown against these guys,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “They rise to play us. … Regardless, we’ve got to find ways to play better and beat these guys.”

Not being Matt Cain’s ball of yarn to toy with would help.

Cain’s career revival finds its strongest pulse when he faces the Dodgers. He has started twice against the Dodgers this season (both at AT&T Park) and allowed just one run over 12-2/3 innings – Yasmani Grandal drove it in with an RBI double in the third inning Monday.

In six starts against anyone else this season, Cain has allowed 19 runs in 29-2/3 innings. Those hitters have batted .292 against him. The Dodgers are 7 for 43 (.163) against the Giants’ former ace.

“I can’t,” Roberts said when asked to explain the discrepancy. “I know we’re a pretty good fastball-hitting team and he doesn’t have the velocity he once did. Buster (Posey, the Giants’ catcher) did a good job with him.

“He really didn’t do anything special. He was just able to lead with his secondaries (off-speed pitches), which really kept us off balance.”

Dodgers starter Brandon McCarthy (fresh off his 10-day timeout on the DL) pitched well enough at the outset. The score was tied, 1-1, when Brandon Belt and Buster Posey led off the bottom of the fourth inning with singles, each sliced to the opposite fields.

Brandon Crawford drove in the first run with the hardest hit of the inning, a sharp ground ball down the first-base line that eluded a diving Chase Utley on its way into the right field corner, where it became an RBI double.

Eduardo Nunez followed with a soft ground ball through the middle that shortstop Corey Seager smothered in shallow center field while one run scored. Nunez’s bat was broken on the swing and part of it skittered out toward the pitcher’s mound where McCarthy focused on avoiding it then turned around in “disbelief it was going to get through.”

That left McCarthy in the middle of the diamond as Crawford hesitated rounding third. McCarthy cut off Seager’s throw, allowing Crawford to trot home and coming up empty in trying to catch Nunez between first and second. Nunez made it to second safely when second baseman Chris Taylor couldn’t scramble back to the base from center field in time.

“The mechanics of the play … he shouldn’t be in the middle of the field,” Roberts said of McCarthy. “He should have been behind home plate. That’s where the mechanics of the play got funky.”

Nunez quickly stole third base and scored on Christian Arroyo’s sacrifice fly.

“It was kind of a blur,” McCarthy said of the inning. “I just kept trying to make pitches and didn’t seem to make any headway.”

The Giants added another opportunistic run in the sixth – Arroyo walked, stole third and scored on Mac Williamson’s two-out, opposite-field single – to chase McCarthy and two more off reliever Grant Dayton in the seventh (including a solo home run by Posey).

It seemed like more than enough, but the Giants struggled to close it out. The Dodgers scored three times in the ninth, forcing Giants manager Bruce Bochy to use three relievers in the final inning to secure a fourth consecutive win (faint signs of a pulse for the Giants after a dreadful start to their season).

Mary Katrantzou Pre-Fall 2017

The designer looked to playing cards — in all their colorful, patterned glory — for this collection filled with classic shapes meant for a range of climates, and a riot of swirls, hearts, leaves and florets.
There was a big focus on daywear, including a sweet jacquard minidress with chunky pearls dotted around the neckline. A Forties-style one with a pussy bow and ruching on the bodice had floral and leaf patterns while a loose printed shirt dress had a scarf hemline.
There were more languid dresses, too, made for poolside cocktails, including a long sleeveless jacquard one with swirling patterns, another with long sleeves and a curling leaf pattern done in red, white and navy. Other silk dresses were printed with abstract ladies’ hands — their nails painted red — holding a set of cards.
For cooler climes, Katrantzou designed tweedy dresses and jackets with flower-shaped buttons dotted down the front, and fox fur stoles in intense shades of royal blue or orangey-red.

Carolina Herrera Pre-Fall Show Planned for Benefit for Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation

RESEARCH ASSISTANCE: As part of its ongoing philanthropic efforts, the Carolina Herrera company will present its pre-fall collection to 89 women at the “Collaborating for a Cure” luncheon Wednesday to benefit the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation.
Executives from the designer’s company will be on hand for this week’s event which will include a fashion show. Guests will be welcomed to Andrea Stark’s penthouse where models will walk down a dramatic staircase and mingle among the seated guests.
Through its support of leading researchers in a wide range of cancer categories, the Waxman Foundation has awarded $90 million to more than 200 researchers globally since 1976. In the past 10 years alone, the group has invested more than $23 million in cancer research. The practice of reprogramming cancer cells to function normally through differentiation led to a breakthrough treatment for acute promyelocytic leukemia. Developed through collaboration between Waxman Foundation founder and chief executive officer Dr. Samuel Waxman, and researchers from the Shanghai Institute of Hematology, the treatment improved the fatality rate of APL, which had been 100 percent to 95 percent.
“Every year, this by-invitation-only and sold-out event has grown in support, doubling in attendance since it debuted in 2014,” Waxman said. “The Waxman Foundation was

Max Mara Wool Week Begins

MILAN — The Max Mara Wool Week starts today in a collaboration between the Italian fashion group and The Woolmark Company to celebrate Australian Merino wool, and the two groups are marking the project with the launch of an exclusive wool denim fabric.
“Max Mara has been employing wool for so many years,” said fashion director Laura Lusuardi, “we felt it was natural for us to communicate the qualities of this natural fiber, which is sustainable and is made up of the most wonderful elements — water, air, grass and the sun.”
Lusuardi said consumers increasingly “want to know what’s behind a product,” and this project allows to emphasize the characteristics of wool “without being too technical.”
Max Mara is employing wool denim in a capsule collection of daily pieces, from a shirtdress with a silk lining, to cuffed palazzo pants with front pleats and a double-breasted blazer or fitted jacket. Although created for fall 2017, Lusuardi said denim wool can be worn year-round, and underscored the functionality of the pieces. “We wanted to create absolutes,” she observed. “They are perfect for a busy woman who travels, they don’t crease, and are always impeccable. These are comfortable items and they don’t bleach or fade.

Made Gold Nabs Investment to Grow Wholesale, Custom Design Program

A capital infusion has Los Angeles denim and ready-to-wear company Made Gold ready take some big steps toward growth.
The company’s designer and founder Marta Goldschmied, daughter of denim guru Adriano Goldschmied, said the money gives her the breathing room to focus on being a creative. The investment also brings on investor Gary Brifil as chief executive officer.
The brand, which was launched in 2014 and counts about five employees, has gained a following among those who gravitate to its glam-rock-inspired jeans designed with features such as lace-up detailing running along the sides. That lace-up style in particular, called the Betty and retailing for $298, has been seen on Bella and Gigi Hadid and Kylie Jenner.
“I feel like I can finally get back into what I enjoy doing, which is creating and being at the laundry,” Goldschmied said. “It’s heavily denim-focused, but I’d like to venture into some knits and some tops and just expand the lifestyle so Gary’s really allowed me to follow my dream. It takes away a little bit of the stress as a creative. I’m not the best businessperson and I’m the first one to say that so it’s amazing to find somebody that believes you and trusts
