Colette Launches Latest Paris Saint-Germain Collaborations

OFF THE PITCH: Colette on Wednesday celebrated its ongoing relationship with the Paris Saint-Germain soccer club with the launch of a limited-edition pair of boots and a sweatshirt aimed at female supporters.
Paris Saint-Germain has been expanding into the lifestyle segment since it fell under Qatari ownership in 2011, said Fabien Allègre, brand diversification and development manager at the club.
“The idea was to go beyond the pitch and, through the Parisian values that we try to represent in all humility, to try to reach people who are not necessarily fans of soccer, but who love Paris, again, for the values the city represents, whether it’s the fashion side or tradition, knowhow and aesthetics,” he told WWD.
For the first time, the club has designated a player — 23-year-old Brazilian defender Marquinhos — as the face of its clothing collaborations. That may have something to do with the fact that Brazilians represent the largest contingent among the club’s 30 million Facebook fans, according to Allègre.
PSG worked with Los Angeles-based footwear designer George Esquivel, whose handmade shoes have been worn by the likes of Madonna, Nicole Kidman and Emma Stone, on a navy boot priced at 950 euros, or $1,050, for the men’s version and 850

Selfridges Ready to Make Music, Ramp Up Sustainability

LONDON — Never one to gather moss, Selfridges is forging ahead with a host of initiatives in the second half, ramping up its efforts on the environmental front, embracing club and music culture and expanding the accessories hall.
On Wednesday, Linda Hewson, the store’s creative director, said Selfridges’ storewide mantra is “buying better, inspiring change” as she laid out some punchy plans on the environmental front.
By 2020, Selfridges plans to reduce its carbon footprint by 50 percent, while by 2021 the store’s top 30 brands will need to have developed clear sustainability agendas. Hewson said the store plans to push the brands, if need be.
With the aim of helping its customers “buy better,” Selfridges also plans to start labeling some of its products, starting with cotton, denim and British brands, revealing their provenance and the brands’ commitment to supply chain transparency and the environment.
The store will also begin carrying the Positive Luxury butterfly mark on the site, which allows customers browsing Selfridges.com to read about the store’s efforts to become more sustainable.
In the fall, Selfridges will be holding a storewide campaign called Music Matters, with a series of events taking place in-store from a variety of musicians, including Skepta and A$AP Rocky.

NEW NAVIGATION: The Outnet.com, Net-a-porter’s discount site, has a new navigational “mega menu” that will launch today, aimed at smoothing the customer journey.
“The customer will now be able to access more categories and products than ever before,” said Andres Sosa, executive vice president of sales, marketing and creative.
The new navigational menu has a multi-column design that includes imagery and editorial and allows customers to access more targeted content, designers and specific product categories. Using the top navigation bar, shoppers are able to see more specific categories such as cocktail dresses, gowns and maxidresses within the dresses category.
In addition, the e-tailer is offering an editorial section known as What to Wear, with influencer content appearing in columns such as Speed Dial, Cheat the Week and Dropped Pins. That will sit alongside category-based boutiques such as wedding, activewear and denim.
“We kicked off the content series with street-style star Natalie Joos, who participated in Speed Dial, and for Cheat the Week we have featured global influencers including Justine Lee, Peggy Frey and Kelly Framel. These women are renowned in their field — but more importantly, our customer will relate to and be keen to learn about them,” he said.

Kenneth Cole to Deliver Commencement Address at Merrimack College

DR. COLE, I PRESUME: Kenneth Cole is slated to deliver the commencement address Sunday at Merrimack College’s 67th undergraduate commencement exercises in Andover, Mass. Cole will be presented with an honorary doctorate in humane letters.
The ceremony will be available via webcast. Cole is a graduate of Emory University, where he majored in political science.
This isn’t Cole’s first honorary degree. He has received honors from Manhattanville College (Doctor of Humane Letters), The University of Illinois Public Health (Appreciation Award for his public health advocacy) and Northeastern University (honorary degree).
“I am honored to be delivering the commencement speech at Merrimack College, and I am humbled to be addressing these students at such a critical part in each of their journeys. I hope to leave them with some valuable lessons as they embark on their next chapters,” said Cole.
So how did the designer come to Merrimack’s attention? When Cole spoke at Northeastern’s commencement in 2009, there were some faculty members in attendance who are at Merrimack College and they reached out to him hoping he could deliver “an equally inspiring commencement speech to their current students,” said a Cole spokeswoman.
As for Sunday’s address, Cole said, “I hope to leave the students with the
