Natalie Portman is using her 2020 Oscars red-carpet moment to make a statement.
The Oscar-winning actress arrived at the 92nd Academy Awards dressed in a custom black and gold embroidered Dior dress paired with a matching cape. On closer look, Portman’s cape was inscribed with the names of the female directors who were not recognized with Oscar nominations for best director this year.
“I wanted to recognize the women who were not recognized for their incredible work this year in my subtle way,” Portman tells Los Angeles Times journalist Amy Kaufman in a video posted on Twitter.

Portman’s cape included the names of “Hustlers” director Lorene Scafaria, “The Farewell” director Lulu Wang, “Little Women” director Greta Gerwig and “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood director” Marielle Heller, among others.
The actress is no stranger to making a bold statement during awards season. Portman had a viral moment at the 2018 Golden Globes where she called out the “all male nominees” when she presented the award for best director.

Awards season has come to an end with the 2020 Oscars on Sunday, Feb. 9.
The 92nd Academy Awards — which coincides with New York Fashion Week fall 2020 — are celebrating the year’s buzziest films. Todd Phillips’ “Joker” is leading the pack with 11 total nominations, including for best picture, best director and best actor for Joaquin Phoenix. Netflix also solidified its running in the Oscars race with 24 nominations, mainly for its projects “Marriage Story” and “The Irishman.”

Zang Toi on Saturday had a surprise guest at his fall 2020 runway show: Rudolph Giuliani. The former New York City Mayor and private attorney of President Trump earlier in the day was having lunch with his friend, Fox News contributor and host of Fox Nation’s “Reality Check” and “The David Webb Show” on SiriusXM Patriot. “Giuliani heard that David was coming to my show and said he wanted to come, too,” Toi said, adding, “He told me after the show that he was having a lot of fun.”
The designer’s runway shows have become something of a friends and family event for Trump. The audience at Toi‘s spring show in September was like a who’s who of the Republican Party, a fact that was underscored by the venue, the Women’s National Republican Club at 3 West 51st Street on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
Bill Hemmer, who was tapped in January to oversee all breaking news coverage, in addition to hosting an eponymous straight-news show, was front and center. The daughter of Fox Business News host Stuart Varney “filmed me for a story about first lady style,” Toi said. “She’s doing Jackie Kennedy, Nancy Reagan and Melania Trump for Fox’s new live-stream, Fox Nation.”

The fourth time is a charm as the 56-year-old actor takes home his first Oscar.

Julia Haart, chief executive officer and chief creative officer of Elite World, which bills itself as the “largest modeling agency on the planet,” has spent her career designing shoes, lingerie and apparel that empowers women without sacrificing comfort. Nor does Haart believe that sexy and strong are mutually exclusive.

The designer prior to joining Elite World was the architect of a ready-to-wear collection for La Perla with built-in support, a fusion of lingerie and fashion, sharply tailored pieces with the complex construction worthy of a building engineer, and worn by Kendall Jenner and Naomi Campbell.
Diversity, another of Haart’s passions, was on display at E. 1972, the inaugural global fashion brand Haart designed for Elite World. “The runway was 18 to 38 [years old]. I’m giving the talent the tools to create their own brands,” she told WWD Saturday minutes after the show ended. Named after the year of Elite’s founding, E. 1972 doesn’t utilize sizes, rather, Haart is using body-scanning technology to eschew traditional sizing, making the line available to all body shapes and sizes. “Cheer” stars Gabi Butler and Lexi Brumback made their New York Fashion Week debut at the Brandon Maxwell show on Saturday night, thanks to Instagram.
Before taking to their seats in the front row at the American Museum of Natural History, the Navarro College cheerleaders, who shot to mainstream notoriety following the wildly popular Netflix documentary’s debut, were escorted through the backstage area by members of the Instagram team, who were capturing content every step of the way.
But reporters who spotted the instantly-recognizable Butler and Brumback, clad in their signature black-and-red sparkly uniforms — “couture” creations by Rebel Athletic — were told by Instagram that they’d have to adhere to certain conditions if they wanted to conduct an interview.
Instagram employees told reporters that while they could video Butler and Brumback walking backstage, they would not be permitted to conduct a video interview. Then, those who did wish to conduct traditional interviews were told they could not publish the interviews until nearly a week later, on Friday, February 14 — essentially, an embargo.
The reason for this, an Instagram employee said, is that “Instagram brought them [Butler and Brumback]” to the show and the platform wanted to be the first to share content.
