What’s Coming on the Fall Runways?

Ready, set, go.
As buyers, editors, influencers, designers, publicists, celebrities, stylists, makeup artists and just plain hangers-on (you know who you are) prep and steel themselves for the marathon of fashion shows ahead and ponder existential thoughts such as: “What should I wear every day to be sure I am photographed?” “Will I get a good seat?” “Where should we eat?” and “How can I be sustainable (or at least appear to be)?,” the most pressing question in advance of the hundreds of shows and presentations that will be held over the next month in New York, London, Milan and Paris is: What will fashion’s fall 2020 look like?
The answer? Pretty much what we’ve already seen.
The men’s wear shows in all of those cities, preceded and overlapped by the countless pre-fall women’s presentations and shows across the globe, have provided a clear roadmap of the fall trends that will be repeated, and amplified, on the runways over the next four weeks.
The key one is a new strain of minimalism exemplified by Daniel Lee’s Bottega Veneta with its subtly twisted take on clean silhouettes — not to mention highly desirable accessories that have become aspirational targets igniting a trickle-down effect felt across

Alexander McQueen Inciting Resale Buyers

A day to the decade since the death of Alexander McQueen, Vestiaire Collective is unveiling an online archival sale devoted to pieces by the acclaimed designer. Vestiaire Collective is also featuring an edit of coveted and hard-to-find items from its global network of sellers at the permanent McQueen store at London’s Selfridges. For both offers, the luxury resale site partnered with McQueen’s former close friend, former colleague and Isabella Blow‘s niece, Harriet Verney.
Items range from the Nineties to the early Aughts. McQueen was 40 years old when he committed suicide.
At the beginning of his career in the Eighties, McQueen and Blow were almost inseparable. A fashion editor, creative director and stylist for British magazines and books, Blow is credited with discovering models such as Stella Tennant and Sophie Dahl, and championing McQueen and propelling his career.

Reportedly depressed about a cancer diagnosis, Blow made attempted suicide with an overdose of sleeping bills in 2006, before succeeding in May 2007.

L.A. Brand to Watch: Holden Outerwear Boosts Fashion, Women’s

Holden Outerwear has had a few different homes and iterations since it was founded by pro snowboarder Mikey LeBlanc 18 years ago.
But fall 2020 marks a new chapter for the business, now headquartered on Abbot Kinney in Venice, Calif., which has transitioned from purely men’s alpine performance wear to include fashion and a women’s wear proposition.
With a Japanese sensibility, new offerings include mid-weight pieces in stylish proportions and hybrid indoor-outdoor fabrications that can function as street or workout wear, including down puffer jogger pants or shorts; cropped sherpa hoodies; seamless Fair Isle sweaters; hi-loft quilted down kimonos, and oversize, oil-finish metallic parkas with fishtail hems.
Holden will be selling during women’s fashion weeks in New York and Paris for the first time this season.
“We want to be a more stylish Canada Goose and a less status Moncler,” said co-founder and designer Scott Zergebel, emphasizing that in addition to using luxe European textiles, the brand has been eco-conscious from Day One, using recycled cork insulation and trackable down, for example.

Ralph Lauren Plans a ‘Special Show’ in April for Fall 2020 Collection

As New York Fashion Week gets underway, the calendar is without several major designers, including Ralph Lauren. He has been mum about when he plans to show his collection and finally revealed Thursday that he would host a “special show” for fall 2020 collection in New York in April.
While his spokesman declined to provide an exact date and location, he said the show is expected to take place in “late April.”
Lauren has been on the “see-now-buy-now schedule” since September 2016, and the fact that he’s showing the fall 2020 collection indicates that he is getting out of that rhythm and routine. Among New York designers who still do “see-now-buy-now” are Tommy Hilfiger (who is showing this season in London) and Rebecca Minkoff.
“Developing unique experiential shows continues to be a primary focus for the brand to engage consumers, maintain a series of freshness and add an element of surprise,” said the Ralph Lauren spokesman. “From the spectacular 50th anniversary show in Central Park to the launch of Ralph’s Café in the Madison Avenue flagship last year, followed by Ralph’s Club for ‘one-night only’ in September, the brand continues to create special and unforgettable experiences that bring the world of Ralph

Ted Baker Brings Bastian on Board as Interim Creative Director

Ari Hoffman and Michael Bastian are back together.

Hoffman, the new chief executive officer of Ted Baker North America, has brought the designer on board as interim chief creative officer, according to market reports. The two had worked together at Gant to re-create the Gant Rugger label.
Hoffman could not be reached for comment.
At Ted Baker, Bastian takes over a role held by founder Ray Kelvin who left the company last year after charges of inappropriate behavior toward employees. In December, the company revealed that it was investigating an accounting error on its balance sheet.
Hoffman started at the brand at the beginning of December. He was most recently ceo of Scotch & Soda USA.
Bastian, a one-time men’s fashion director of Bergdorf Goodman, started his own label in 2006 and sold a “significant interest” in the company to Bluestar Alliance in 2016.
