Topshop Unique, Julien Macdonald Fall Off London Fashion Week Schedule

LEAVING LFW: Topshop Unique and Julien Macdonald are the latest labels that have dropped off the schedule at London Fashion Week, although Topshop will continue to sponsor show spaces for emerging talent.
Topshop’s premium label, which is designed in-house and which joined the LFW schedule in 2005, will be “taking a pause” this February. The Arcadia-owned Topshop is currently undergoing a restructuring, with a new team of creatives and managers on board.
“The brand remains committed to the development and support of emerging and established talent and will be hosting the Topshop Showspace for a roster of designers; Molly Goddard, Preen by Thornton Bregazzi, House of Holland, Shrimps and Nicopanda,” said a spokeswoman. “Topshop will also continue its ongoing sponsorship of Fashion East as well as hosting the collective in the show space.”
Macdonald is another designer who will be absent from LFW, although a spokeswoman said that he will show later this year, with details to be confirmed in due course. Versus Versace has also confirmed that it will not be showing.
Macdonald and Topshop Unique are the latest brands to rejig their priorities and change up their show formats. They join Antonio Berardi, who revealed last month that he was leaving the

USC receiver Joseph Lewis IV arrested on domestic violence allegation

USC wide receiver Joseph Lewis IV was arrested Monday on suspicion of domestic violence, Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Mike Lopez told the Southern California News Group.

Online jail records show Lewis, 19, was booked at the department’s 77th Street Division station Monday evening on a class F felony count and held on $50,000 bail. He had not be released as of 11:30 p.m. Monday.

Officers first arrested Lewis at 2 p.m. Monday.

Lopez declined to provide details about the incident or information about the accuser.

LAPD said earlier Monday that it had opened an investigation into an alleged incident of domestic violence involving an unnamed USC student-athlete that occurred early Sunday morning.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office is expected to receive the case Tuesday.

Violation of the California Penal Code section 273.5 can carry a punishment from a $6,000 fine to four years in state prison.

A USC athletic department spokesman said Lewis had been suspended from all team activities in the aftermath of his arrest.

“USC takes all reports of domestic abuse seriously and is cooperating fully with the law enforcement investigation,” a school statement read. “While this student code of conduct issue is being investigated, the student has been suspended from all football-related activities. Student disciplinary records and student conduct proceedings are confidential at USC and protected by law.”

Lewis arrived at USC as a highly recruited five-star prospect from nearby Hawkins High, less than three miles south of its University Park campus. As a freshman last season, Lewis caught four passes for 39 yards and appeared in 11 games, often on special teams.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound receiver was expected to see a more significant role as a sophomore in 2018 following the departures of leading receivers Deontay Burnett and Steven Mitchell.

Los Alamitos, Servite receive No. 1 seeds in CIF-SS Division 1 boys and girls soccer playoffs

Los Alamitos, with a young squad that features five freshmen in starting roles, was awarded the No. 1 seed in the Division 1 field — along with a first-round bye — when the CIF-Southern Section girls soccer pairings were released Monday morning.

“That’s cool to hear (that other coaches think we’re the favorite), but at this point, everyone’s good and anything can happen,” said Coach Pat Rossi, who guided the Griffins to the quarterfinals last season. “We need to be relaxed and focused on our game.

“When we focus on playing good soccer, rather than on winning, that’s when we look our best. When we’re our best version, that’s when we play, that’s when we look our best.”

The Griffins (24-3-2) will face Northwood (10-5-3) or Rancho Cucamonga (12-8-3) in a second-round game Feb. 20.

One other county girls team received a No. 1 seed – Pacifica (17-3-3) in Division 3. The Mariners won the Empire League title for the first time in six years.

The boys soccer playoff pairings, which also were released Monday, featured three Orange County teams receiving a No. 1 seed: Servite (17-2-2) in Division 1, Valencia ( 22-1-3) in Division 2 and University (15-1-3) in Division 3.

Garden Grove (15-2-2), co-champion in the Garden Grove League, received the No. 2 seed in boys Division 4.

In the girls Division 1 bracket, Santa Margarita (14-1-3), the Trinity League champs, received the No. 3 seed and a first-round bye. JSerra (17-1-1), the defending division champs, opens the playoffs at Dana Hills (5-8-3) on Thursday.

Two county girls teams received No. 2 seeds – Villa Park (18-4-2) in Division 2, and Garden Grove (21-0-1) in Division 6.

In the girls playoffs, wild-card games will be played Tuesday, Feb. 13, first-round games on Thursday, Feb. 15, second-round games on Tuesday, Feb. 20, quarterfinals on Friday, Feb. 23, semifinals on Tuesday, Feb. 27 and the championship games on Friday-Saturday, March 2-3.

In the boys playoffs, wild-card games will be played Wednesday, Feb. 14, first-round games on Friday, Feb. 16, second-round games on Wednesday, Feb. 21, quarterfinals on Saturday, Feb. 24, semifinals on Tuesday, Feb. 27 and the finals on Friday-Saturday, March 2-3.

CIF girls water polo: Albano’s playoff predictions for Tuesday

OCVarsity’s Dan Albano offers his predictions on the CIF girls water polo matches Tuesday:

Division 2

Wild card

Santa Barbara def. Troy — The Warriors are rebuilding with their new on-campus pool while the fourth-seeded Dons (14-13) are battled-tested courtesy of the Channel League, one of the toughest groups in the section. The traditionally-strong Dons should win this road game as the No. 4 seed in the bracket and then head Thursday to Murrieta Valley for a first-round game.

Santa Margarita def. Huntington Beach — The Oilers are 3-11 all-time in the postseason but expect them to give the the third-seeded Eagles a push. Two years ago, they lost at Santa Margarita, 13-10, in the playoffs, so Huntington Beach knows what it’s getting into. The winner heads to Riverside Poly on Thursday. Santa Margarita owns two three-goal victories against Poly.

Division 3

Wild card

Rosary def. Bonita — The Royals finished fifth in the final Division 3 poll and already own a 13-2 victory against Bonita. Rosary should hit the road again Thursday for Rio Mesa.

Dana Hills def. Palm Desert – Neither team figured in the final Division 3 rankings. The Dolphins are 12-16 but should win a tight game at home. Palm Desert’s roster is young. Dana Hills junior Lauren Bellavia is a player to watch. She plays for the SET club and helps lead the Dolphins with 60 goals, 40 assists, 60 steals and 72 drawn exclusions.

Villa Park def. Warren – The Spartans narrowly missed second place in the Crestview but should grab this road victory. They already beat Warren, 11-3.

Division 4

Wild card

Ocean View def. Westridge –– Neither team was ranked in final Division 4 poll but OV’s Leyna Tran is a scorer to watch.

Esperanza def. Yucaipa — The Aztecs placed ninth in the final Division 4 poll. They also won 17 games after a 0-5 start. First-year Coach Ashley Diaz nabs her first postseason victory.

Palos Verdes def. Beckman — Third-seeded PV should sink visiting Beckman.

Brea Olinda def. Xavier Prep — Host Brea Olinda and goalie Meghan Lopez advance.

Irvine at Chaparral – It’s a long trip for the Vaqueros but Coach Crystal Hinman and Co. bring home the win.

Division 6

First round

Savanna def. Citrus Valley – The Rebels have been steady against fair competition but knock off the No. 9 team in the division.

Garden Grove def. Santa Fe – The host Argos collect their 17th victory of the season.

Tustin def. Webb — Tillers hit the road but are talented enough with goalie Kalypso Fish and Dana Twisk to post the victory.
