S.A.P.A.F. was established in Florence in 1954 from a project developed by Silvano Calistri and his wife, Valdivia. The business, family-owned for three generations, is distinguished by exclusive leather accessories that are entirely handcrafted, and artisan expertise deriving from over 50 years of experience in the sector.
The firm later moved from Florence to Scandicci, the most important Italian production district for top quality leather accessories. Today, Sapaf has adopted a production differentiation strategy, thanks to collaboration with famous international names, collection planning for Private Labels and their own line featuring the Sapaf 1954 trademark.
During the 50s and 60s, the Firm concentrated mainly on limited production and single models. There was an international boom in the 80s and 90s, with the discovery of world famous Department Stores and major fashion magazines on the media front, accompanied by a change in production strategy focusing on consignment for big name brands in the 90s. In 1997, Sapaf, together with 15 Tuscan firms created the “100% Italian Consortium” to promote and support local production, in contrast with production relocation strategy.
An important achievement came at the beginning of the new century, when they obtained the first quality certification ISO 9001 and social accountability SA 8000. As for production procedures, CAD-CAM modelling technology and a completely automatic cutting center were adopted.
The Firm continues to distinguish itself from competitors, thanks to company philosophy that prefers quality excellence and uniqueness to mere commodity criterion. Sapaf offers practical and elegant products, a perfect balance between stylistic design and everyday needs.
