Akra Polyester S.A de C.V which was formerly known as FIBRAS QUIMICAS, started its activities in 1962 as a manufacturer and marketer of Nylon and Polyester Chips and Yarns by setting up a manufacturing plant in Monterrey, Nuevo León, México. In the following years, continuous improvements were made to increase productivity and with the improved product portfolio the demand for the company´s products in the domestic and export markets continued to grow steadily.
In the 90’s, the company initiated upstream plant expansions by setting up of a Polyester direct spinning polymerization system from Zimmer A.G. that linked to new Barmag texturing machines. By 1998, the company was firmly established as Mexico´s leading polyester manufacturer.
More than five decades of operational excellence, experience and expertise form a combined strength to empower the company as the pioneer in synthetic yarns in Mexico. At present, Akra Polyester specializes in the production and sales of differential Polyester Chips and Yarns widely applied in Textile and Industrial markets.
Located in the center of the an important economic and industrial zone, the city of Monterrey, the company covers an area of 448,000 m2 and is very nearby the U.S.A border, so Akra Polyester is strategically located to service their main markets via land, sea or rail.
With global advanced equipment introduced from Germany, Japan, Italy, and the USA, the plant has the capacity to produce annually 93,000 metric tons of polyester chip and 70,000 metric tons of differential polyester filaments. These products are currently exported to more than 13 countries and regions such as USA, Canada, Central America, South America and Europe.
The domestic (Mexico) market share of the company´s main products, has reached the 40% .The export market is very important and accounts for more than 50% of our production and has been widely recognized by users at home and abroad.
Akra Polyester supplies the automotive segment with Polyester filament yarns for seat belts, headliners and body cloth upholstery fabrics and technical yarns for mechanical rubber components like high pressure hoses and power transmission belts. We serve other important segments like apparel, home textiles, garden furniture fabrics, industrial broad woven fabrics and polymer specialties.
