Lacrosse Roundup: Highlights, scores from Thursday’s games (April 19)

Highlights and scores from boys and girls lacrosse on Thursday, April 19:

Girls Lacrosse

St. Margaret’s 17, Esperanza 2
The Tartans offensive outburst snapped Esperanza’s four-game winning streak. Cailin Young scored six goals and Niki Miles scored five for St. Margaret’s, who have won its last four games by an average of 15 goals. The Tartans play Beckman Friday and finish their season against Foothill Wednesday. Esperanza and its star goalie, Monica Silva, hope to bounce back against Santiago of Corona Tuesday.

El Dorado 17, Rosary 4
El Dorado recovered from its 10-goal loss to Esperanza Tuesday by putting up 17 goals on a Rosary team that entered Thursday on a three-game winning streak. Sophomore Ashley Swearingen scored a team-high three goals for the Golden Hawks and team captain Ana Conrado scored two goals and dished out six assists.

Santa Margarita 14, Los Alamitos 4
The Eagles lost their previous two games against top three opponents, Foothill and Mater Dei, by a total of four goals. Katelyn Murphy scored a game-high five goals for Santa Margarita and Aidan Pike and Maddie Bush combined for six goals in the win. Morgan Kalish scored three goals for the Griffins and goalie Hannah Hornung had 10 saves.

Trabuco Hills 14, San Juan Hills 5
The Mustangs, led by First Team All-County junior Hennessey Evans, avenged their only league loss of the season by beating San Juan Hills 14-5. Evans scored five goals for the Mustangs and so did Juliet Mooney. Trabuco leads the South Coast League and has two league games remaining, both against last placed Laguna Hills. Taylor Austin and Lucy Hodge each scored two goals for the Stallions in the loss.

Boys Lacrosse

Tesoro 15, Mission Viejo 3
Tesoro is the only undefeated team remaining in Orange County and has outscored its Sea View League opponents 119-18. Junior attackman Carson Spooner scored seven goals for the Titans and Jason Moreta scored three. The Titans play Trabuco Hills Saturday and if they get by the Mustangs, they will likely enter the playoffs undefeated for the first time in school history.

Capistrano Valley 18, San Juan Hills 9
The Cougars snapped a three-game losing streak and did so in dominating fashion, scoring 18 goals and getting 41 shots on goal. If Capo Valley beats Mission Viejo next Friday, the Cougars will finish second place in the Sea View League. San Juan Hills goalie Graham Knapp had 23 saves in the loss.

Dana Hills 9, Aliso Niguel 8
The Dolphins upset Aliso to earn their first league win since 2016. The Wolverines are currently ranked 16 in the U.S. Lacrosse coaches’ poll, which would earn them the last spot in the playoffs. Losing to Dana Hills may kill their playoff hopes, but the Wolverines have beaten all four teams behind them in the top 20. Sean Ibarra and Mason Manier each scored two goals for Aliso in the loss.

Santa Margarita 19, Mater Dei 6
The Eagles scored 10 consecutive goals in the second half to put the game out of reach for the visiting Monarchs. Santa Margarita’s only Orange County losses this season are to St. Margaret’s, Foothill and Tesoro who are the consensus top three in the county. Sophomore attackman Tyler Wrightston had a game-high six goals for the Eagles. If Santa Margarita beats Servite next Thursday, the Eagles will win their fourth consecutive Trinity League title.
