Anaheim briefs: Watch Disney movies at Anaheim parks

The Disneyland Resort is bringing some summer fun to Anaheim parks.

Celebrate summer starting June 22 and continuing through Aug. 3 with the Disneyland Resort’s free movie nights to Anaheim parks. The outdoor screenings are open to all residents, the movies start at 7:45 p.m. There is also free popcorn and trivia and prizes.

Movies and locations are:

  • June 22: “Finding Nemo,” Ponderosa Park
  • June 29: “Ratatoulle,” Modjeska Park
  • July 6: “Inside Out,” Willow Park
  • July 13: “Toy Story,” Stoddard Park

The Anaheim Neighborhood Association is busy bringing speakers and information to local residents on issues that affect their lives. At 7 p.m. on June 21, there will be a presentation on landlord and tenants rights. Connecting Colonists

Anaheim High School Alumni Association is planning a 10th anniversary celebration.

The Aloha Membership Mixer will be 5 to 7:30 p.m. on June 22 at the home of Anaheim alumni. Admission is $25 and includes the annual membership fee, a thank you gift and a ticket for the grand prize drawing. To buy tickets online go to anaheimcolonists.com. For more information call 714-883-2389.

Fireworks sales start soon

The sale of safe and sane fireworks in Anaheim begins on June 28.  Anaheim nonprofits and school groups will be selling the fireworks. Check anaheim.net/fireworks for a map of locations. Call 714-765-5162 for more information. And, be safe.

Biz group has new leaders

The Anaheim Small Business Organization welcomes new officers. Congratulations to new officers:  Victoria Michaels, president; Brian Chuchua, vice president of membership; Ryan Wakely, vice president of operations and development; Kevin Gibbs, parliamentary chancellor; Sandeep Baweja, secretary corresponding; and Michael Buss, treasurer.

Altrusa Anaheim receives grant for literacy program

Congratulations to Altrusa International of Anaheim for receiving a grant from its parent organization for the Creative Writing Project at Ponderosa Elementary School. The Altrusa International Foundation grant will be used to provide books for the students and for the school library. The project allows the students to write their own stories under the essay theme of “Finding My Voice…Telling My Story.”

The Anaheim Club is part of an international organization of professionals and business people who provide for their communities through volunteer community service. The 2018-19 board of directors was recently installed by Denice Gilb, past District Eleven Governor. Board members are: Patricia Hansmeyer, president; Reon Boydstun Howard and Maria Hoffman, vice presidents, Denise Barnes, corresponding secretary; Charlene Bowden, recording secretary, Cappy Brown, Judy Goldberg and Judy Gunderson, directors; Beth Pelfrey, treasurer; Leslie Johnson, immediate past president and Carol Latham, parliamentarian.

Sister city plans

The Anaheim Sister City Commission is accepting applications from families in Anaheim to host visiting high school exchange students from our Sister City in Mito, Japan. The Japanese guests will be visiting Anaheim between July 20 and July 31.  Completed applications must be submitted by June 20.

The commission is also seeking chaperones to escort the 2018 group of six Anaheim high school students to Mito from June 23 to July 3.Applications can be downloaded from the Anaheim Sister City Commission site at anaheim.net/sistercity.

1978 Knights are reuniting

The Katella High Class of 1978 is having its 40-year reunion on Octo. 20 at JT Schmid’s,  2610 E. Katella Ave. Organizers are gathering addresses to keep classmates informed.
