Bridget Foley’s Diary: Much Ado About Leggings

Fly the friendly skies. In the wake of United Airlines vs. Girls in Leggings, the slogan (revived by the airline in 2013 after a 17-year hiatus) must seem patently incorrect to those who rushed to excoriate United via social media over the incident. Those people should get over themselves.
They should also get their facts straight, which many who went immediately nuts didn’t do on Sunday before tweeting about something going with total strangers at a United gate in Denver. Obviously, there are times when, as the MTA PSA says, “If you see something, say something.” This wasn’t one of those times — not without certainty of the particulars. Today, everyone is photographer, videographer and general cultural critic and, by virtue of those conditions, also a potential Insta-crusader, at the ready to redress a wrong. Sometimes all it takes is a perceived injustice playing out nearby, no matter how inconsequential. Hence, Leggingsgate.
You know the story: Two teenaged girls. Employee flight passes. Dress code violation. Outraged observer. Outcry!
In this era of relentless celebration of self, there’s a knee-jerk tendency among the easily aggrieved righteous to express horror that anyone — or worse still, a non-human entity like a company — would dare judge clothing

They Are Wearing: Festival de Viña del Mar, Chile

The Festival de Viña del Mar — or simply the “Festival de Viña” — is the largest music festival in Latin America. The festival, held annually for the past 85 years, is part concert, part competition: Artists perform for the audience, but also compete for the title of best song. This year’s event was held from Feb. 20 to 25 in the Chilean coastal city.
In a style aptly described by one local as “reggaeton chic,” festivalgoers wore popping, floral prints and accessorized with primary colored sneakers. Platforms reigned in all forms of footwear: boots, wedges and high tops. Ath-leisure pieces made an expected appearance, especially in the form of vertical stripes and platform sneakers.
Looks that transitioned from seaside to party defined this year’s style at Festival de Viña. Since the festival took place only in the evenings, revelers spent their nights with the music and their afternoons along the seaside. Transition was the name of the game: denim-based looks were casual in the daytime and glammed up for the evenings with chunky jewelry, mirrored sunglasses and variations on the work boot.

Boucheron Renovates Place Vendôme Flagship

A JEWEL OF A BUILDING: Boucheron’s historic Paris flagship, a mansion located at 26 Place Vendôme, is about to get a renovation. Kering, Boucheron’s parent company, has filed for a building permit at Paris City Hall, and the project will be led by Michel Goutal, chief architect for historic monuments.
The renovation is timed to Boucheron’s 160th anniversary. The Place Vendôme maison hasn’t always been the brand’s home, but it has resided there since 1893, when founder Frédéric Boucheron chose the location, originally named Hôtel la Nocé. The idea is to highlight and preserve the building’s historic architecture, while complying with Kering’s commitment to environmental standards.
The site of scaffolding will be familiar to those familiar with Place Vendôme. Maintaining one of of Paris’ most beautiful and historic squares requires upkeep, especially in recent years. The Ritz Hotel reopened last year after a four-year renovation that coincided with the restoration of the Colonne Vendôme, the plaza’s centerpiece, which was also financed by the Ritz. The 145-foot column was built in 1810 as a military tribute to Napoleon I. The luxury plaza famed for jewelers and watchmakers is also home to Chanel, Chaumet, Dior, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Lorenz Bäumer, Louis Vuitton, Repossi, Breguet and Van Cleef &
